What we do · Protect your downside

You need to be part of “the club” … losses always hurt worse than gains help… let’s progress regardless of market directions…

The industry sells you a stock/bond slider. We think you deserve better than a dial.

The problem

The math nobody puts on the brochure.

Wall Street’s answer is a slider—more stocks for growth, more bonds for safety—and a shrug when both fall at once. For a household that’s already won the game, that’s not a strategy. It’s a coin flip with your retirement.

How Valla works

Haven starts from a different premise.

Protecting what you have matters more than squeezing out the last point of upside. Haven 7 brings access to ideas associated with “the club” into portfolios using defined-outcome structures designed to buffer a meaningful portion of market losses while still participating in gains—with the tradeoffs spelled out in advance.

Frequently asked questions

The questions people ask us. And the ones they don’t.

The one nobody asksWhat’s the catch? Where does the protection come from?

From giving something up. Every protected portfolio trades some upside for a buffer on the downside. Haven strategies use defined-outcome structures where the buffer, participation, and time period are set in advance.

If anyone tells you there is no catch, walk away.

The one nobody asksSo I’ll make less money in a good year?

In a very strong year, likely yes, depending on the strategy. The trade is avoiding the full impact of a large loss and the time it takes to recover. If you disagree with that trade, we may not be the right fit.

The one nobody asksIs this options trading? That sounds risky.

The structures use options to define outcomes. They are not speculation or day trading, but they carry risks: the buffer covers a defined range, protection is measured at the end of a stated period, and the structures can be complex. We explain each one in writing before it goes into your portfolio.

The one nobody asksWhat happens in a year like 2008 or 2022?

A buffered strategy is designed to absorb a meaningful portion of a decline, not all of it. Before investing, we will show what each strategy is designed to do at a range of negative outcomes and explain the tradeoffs.

The one nobody asksWhy doesn’t everyone do this?

A stock-and-bond slider is easier to sell, explain, and run at scale. Defined-outcome strategies take more work to build, explain, and oversee. We chose the more deliberate path.

Is protection guaranteed?

No. The buffer is a design feature, not a guarantee. It covers a defined range of losses over a defined period, and you can still lose money, including beyond the buffer.

The one nobody asksHow do fees work if my account is flat or below a prior high?

For eligible clients using a high-water-mark arrangement, the agreement determines the quarterly fee test, any deferred-fee treatment, and the amount that may be paid. Review the fee schedule and Form ADV with us before making a decision.
